History
We, Sônia Melo and Alfonso Bausilio, are former professional dancers at the Stadttheater Bern and have performed on numerous international stages over the years. As members of the "Association Francaise Des Maitres De Danse" in Paris, we aim to share our extensive experience with interested students. Trained in the VAGANOVA (Russian) and R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance, England) methods, we have developed our own technique and successfully trained students who have become accomplished dancers.
The ASBallet School was founded by us in Köniz near Bern in 1996. Guided by the principles of VAGANOVA (Russian) and R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dance, England), initially, the R.A.D. method seemed ideal for children aged 4 to 6. However, through frequent travels to workshops and dance competitions in France, we realized that children trained according to R.A.D. principles were not sufficiently challenged or supported technically. We found ourselves in a transitional phase and sought our own educational style, which we have since developed. The international success of some of our students as professional dancers at prominent theaters such as Opéra de Paris, Bejart Company in Rotterdam, or in the U.S.A validates our evolution of teaching methods. Additionally, our students have regularly participated in competitions in France, Italy, and the U.S.A., achieving excellent results. We regularly stage ballet performances with our students at the Stadttheater Bern.
For many years, we have successfully offered pre-professional training. However, our school is not solely focused on training and developing professional dancers but is open to anyone dedicated to ballet, be it children or adults, pursuing it as a hobby or with aspirations to become professional dancers. We regularly participate in competitions with our students (mandatory!), providing them with a gauge of their international standing. Recognized ballet personalities, such as Mr. Denis Mattenet, Director and Founder of the Centre de Danse de Montreux, or Mr. Bertrand Baréna, Professor at the École de Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris, conduct these evaluations.
Since September 2008, we have opened a second school in the city of Bern, at Zentweg (240 m2). Whether in Boll or at Zentweg, our studios are bright and offer a pleasant atmosphere. Our newest training center is located in New York! As you can see, we are continually expanding our offerings internationally. We would be delighted to welcome you to our school!

- Learning classical ballet, modern dance, character dance, and hip-hop.
- Acquiring the fundamentals of dance at a professional level.
- Promoting the sense of movement and dynamics.
- Enhancing physical fitness and the ability to express oneself through movement in music.
- The mandatory program always starts with classical dance as the foundation. It is offered six times a week from Monday to Friday starting around 4:00 PM.
